Alec, in his late forties, was a heavy set man and a man who took his duties seriously. As a result, he had the habit of patrolling his precinct at night. That night too he went with his regular habit when this mysterious figure was sighted. It was the first Friday of the month and there was no moon on that day when he started off on his rounds after a late dinner. There were few vehicles on the road, and much of the neighbourhood had retired early due to the cold weather. When he turned left of the second avenue suddenly his eyes caught a figure near some shrubs about 20 metres away.

The light of a vehicle going near the Highway had just struck its light on that side and Alec caught a glimpse of a figure crouching near the shrub. According to him, “I don’t know what to say. The figure was surely not a human and not an animal. I estimate the height to be around 7 to 8 feet, somewhat resembling a guerrilla. I am bit confused to say what it is.” He further added that it was seen near the house of the Pascals. Before Alec went closer to investigate, the figure swiftly ran away.

The news got its place in the front page in the local media for one or two days. But no further sightings were reported and the incident gradually faded from the memory of the local populace in a week. But within ten days, another sighting was reported from northern side of the city especially in the Fifth Avenue. The Richards were asleep. The evening rain had seized and there was no power in the house. At around twelve at night Mrs Richards woke up with a start because she imagined something (probably a chair) had fallen over.

She could not see anything but could smell an funny odour. She explained it as a combination of rotting flesh and the peculiar smell that can be felt in the section where carnivores are kept in zoos. Being a plucky lady, she went downstairs and then she saw an ugly figure in the candlelight. It was just like the police person reported. It was a creature of somewhat eight feet height. She saw the face very clearly. It appeared more like a monkey but the body structure of the creature turned more about a guerrilla.

The creature was hairy and had a ferocious look. Seeing this terrifying sight she cried out and like the previous instance with Alec, the creature ran away into the street. She stood there thunderstruck. She was hospitalised and was given tranquilizers for the shock, but was discharged the next day as no injuries or other damages were present. The same night at the southern side where it was first seen by Alec was this figure again appeared. It was near the railway cross junction just 200 metres from the place where it was seen first.

Railway guard Peterson after completing the night shift was moving towards his house. He met with this creature and according to his words, “Oh! I can’t say what it looked. It was about 2 in the morning and I was going to my house. The creature was just in front of me. It was eating something. I took my gun and aimed at this. Just that moment it turned back and saw me. I fired but it ran away quickly. I am not sure whether I got a hit.” The whole town became frightened under this news. For a few days this was the major news in the front page of the news paper.

The children became fearful about the new creature in the town and the news papers published the picture of the creature drawn from the details from Mrs. Richards and from Mr. Peterson. The police warned the people of
