Inserts His/her Inserts Inserts Grade Inserts Here (Day, Month, Year) THE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE OF THE INTERNATIONAL BROTHERHOOD OF TEAMSTERS The organization international brotherhood of teamsters was founded in 1903 and is one of the largest labor unions in the world with 1.4 million members. It is the most diversified union in the United States which initiated as a labor organization representing transportation workers. The term "teamster" actually means “the driver of a team of horses.

” Transportation is the fundamental goal and focal point of the organization, but it also includes workers employed in other industries.The base of the IBT is the Local Union.There are hunderds of Teamsters local unions across North America. These unoins are different from other labor unions. They are designed to promote powerful labor unoins leaders. Most of the contracts are negotiated by these teamsters and they provide them with their services and therefore hold dues money. Locals hire adept labor lawyers, recognized public accountants, full-time business agents, organizers, and clerical staff.

Each local elects its own officers, fabricates its structure, and votes on its bylaws, in accordance with the International Constitution and Bylaws. The next structure is the Joint council. Joint councils are established in areas where there are three or more local unions. Joint Councils help synchronize Teamsters activities. They also solve jurisdictional and legal matters.The thid structure is the Trade Division and conferences where the locals disscuss their common problems and issues and interests.

The headquarter of the unoin is at Washington D.C which helps its local unoins by providing them with coordinated national negotiations.also provide them with training and educational programs.provide them with advice and proper guidance of the experts suca as organizers, negotiators, researchers etc. (Teamsters Structure) The organizational structure of the IBT comprises of IBT members,IBT conventions, General executive board which is further divided into Trustees, General president executive assistant, General secretary-Treasurer Executive Assistant.

The Teamsters Union is the finest program in America designed to eradicate the increasing gap between the rich and the poor which is widening with every day that is passing. (Organizational Chart) Forlornly, the politicians continue to avoid the condition of the working families because of which the Teamster Union is endeavouring to bring the millions of poor hardworking men and women into the category of the middleclass. The organization strives to provide fair representation to all the members as well as the non-members and restrains itself from discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, disability or age.

It is the duty of the organization to eradicate all sorts of discriminatory practices prevailing within the CBA (collective bargaining agreement). The Union provides financial and economic security to the families of its members and fulfils their needs and demands. The employees are guaranteed a wage or salary if they take a leave based on a genuine reason like, the birth of a child, to look after a family member or loved one who has a serious health condition, if the employee is unable to fulfill his or her responsibilities due to severe health conditions.

The Union provides loan facilty to its members in times of financial crisis and the Union officers utilize the funds for welfare of the members and the union itself. The Union provides job protection, benefits and wages, college scholarships and additional services at a discounted price to the members. It has specific packages which provide legal, medical and financial services to protect the Teamster families and to bring about an increase in their prosperity. In addition, it keeps its members aware of the union news about their particular industry or sector.

Thus, we can say that the IBT works effectively to satisfy the needs of its members.
