The major finding of the dissertation is to understand and analyse the balance scorecard in order to evaluate the effect of the same balance scorecard upon team behaviour. The dissertation provided huge knowledge regarding the several characteristic of balance scorecard and its positive impact on the employees and their performance. This research study derived the positive fact that a strong relationship between balance scorecard and team behaviour helps in managing performance for effective profitability. The study was conducted with the help of qualitative research methodology, which helped in attaining proper information and managing team. To evaluate the findings and get adequate data with relevant facts qualitative research approach had been used. The approach of data collection was effective as semi structured interview and participant’s observation was conducted to derive relevant output and information (Northeastern University, 2003). After reviewing the research study it can be stated that the aim of the study was to describe and explore the effect of the balance scorecard upon the team behaviour by monitoring the competencies of the firm strategically. The use of balance scorecard and its effectiveness in improving the team member behaviour was revealed through the use of the qualitative research approach. The clear objective of the study was to describe about the several factors of balance score cards, which the company name Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA) had used to improve the team performance measurement. This dissertation describes about the positive aspects that the uses of balance scorecard would bring in enhancing the performance of the company. The strength of the study is in the fact that it adopted the qualitative method for analysing the performance of the company and to understand the effect of balance scorecard on the management performance. In this regard, it is evident to state that the qualitative data is suitable for examining several theories, which is related with the application of balance scorecard approaches in the case of evaluation of team performance management. In this dissertation the data has been collected through semi structured interview and participants observation which is totally justified with the problem that the company was facing. The study is about managing the performance of all the employees of Prudhoe Mill, which is recognised to be the largest production plant of SCA’s. In this regard, the use and analysis of balance scorecard with the help of qualitative approach is effective and provides strength to the dissertation. The process of data collection used for the dissertation was appropriate for analysing the findings in an effective manner. The research method used addressed the core problem, which is related with the subject of the research. Through adopting the semi structured interview and the participant’s observation as research methods the researcher acquired appropriate and relevant data for the research to analyse the importance of balance scorecard and its effect on the team as well as performance management (Northeastern University, 2003). In every research paper, ethical issues are most important factor, which has been taken into the consideration in this dissertation. In this research all the collected data were kept confidential to maintain the ethicality. This can be justified by the fact that the participants who had participated in the semi structured interview process, their personal details were kept confidentially. Participants had the freedom to withdraw their name any time from the interview session to maintain the reliability of data (The University of California, 2014). The research study has provided the clear statement, which describes the relationship between the applications of balance scorecard and team performance analysis. In the study the researcher tried to explain that how the balance scorecard is helpful in identifying the several aspects of the performance and developing the level of team performance by maintaining the balance between competition and cooperation. All these aspects can be termed as the strength for the dissertation to identify the importance of balance scorecard for the organisational performance Analysis of the Weaknesses of Dissertation E Balance scorecard The research study contained several limitations, which were related with the application of balance scorecard concept. Though the qualitative method was useful but it had several limitations for the study. This can be apparently stated that the in case of data collection regarding the practices of balance score card approach in the Prudhoe Mill, which is referred to be the largest plant of SCA Hygiene Products in the United Kingdom. The use of quantitative approach would have been more effective in analyzing the data and findings (Northeastern University, 2003). The other limitation of the study was that it did not provide any explains about the problems related with the practices of balance scorecard in the Prudhoe Mill. The study had paid very little focus on the evaluation of the several problems, which were continues in the plant. Moreover, the weakness is that the research study failed to focus upon the findings of the actual solution of the problem of unstructured team management. In this study the researcher has also failed to contrast the actual problems of the Prudhoe Mill with the application of the balance score cards. Though the researcher explained about the three factors, which were used in the research paper but other possible relevant factors were not included in the discussion. This aspect stated the fact that the actual process or the actual method of overcoming the problem related with the team performance in the plant was not elaborated effectively. The study did not explain the actual preventive measures, which would be helpful to develop the appropriate and effective team performance evaluation. In this study, the data collection process was very time consuming as an interview had to be conducted. The researcher took six months’ time to collect the adequate data for deriving proper relevant result. However, the application of the quantitative method in the research would have been more appropriate and led to less time consumption for data collection. Another major error for this research, which can be regarded as a big weakness is that the number of participants for the research were six. The limited participants had weakened the research procedures. The small number of respondent cannot provide adequate information regarding the practise of balance scorecard in the Prudhoe Mill. Thus these can be considered as weakness for the dissertation E reflecting the understanding about the balance scorecard. Part B Dissertation Question Weather positive motivation is more effective in helping Team building than the negative motivation? Introduction Motivation refers to a theoretical concept, which explains the human behavior towards any course of activities. Motivation also represents an expression of any desire and any activity. It is described as a goal oriented behavior, which is mainly initiated to guide a person to attain their objective. This is referred to be one of the most effective processes to encourage people regarding their job and performance in an organization. There are two types of motivation one is positive motivation and second is negative motivation regarding team building and management (Goldsmith IBS Limited, 2014). In this regard, positive motivation induces person or encourages others to perform activity effectively. In positive motivation the person is expected to get some reward after the successful fulfillment of work. Positive motivation encourages people to improve their key skills and provide some financial rewards for better performance (Fishbach & et. al., 2010). On the other hand, negative motivation is a motivational concept which encourages people to act in an adverse way. Negative motivation refers that if person does not work hard he/ she will not be able to attain success and achieve the desired goals (Fishbach & et. al., 2010). The main objective of the study is to evaluate about the effectiveness of the motivation upon the team performance and organizational performance. The study also describes that positive motivation is comparatively more powerful in building the team performance than the negative motivation. Research Methodology Research is an idiom which denotes as a search of knowledge. In other words research refers to be a systematic way of scientific investigation. Research also refers to be an activity, which is used in a technical sense. The research methodology refers to be a systematic analysis through the help of several methods, which has been adopted to complete the research. In this regard, it can be stated that methodology is a theoretical description of all the research methods, which has been taken in to the consideration for justifying research statement. It is a general research strategy that outlines several paradigm and theories of the research. Generally, there are six types of research methodology, which supports the preparation of a research paper. This research methodology includes, qualitative research, quantitative research, correlation and regression analysis, quasi- experimental, experimental and meta-analysis (Northeastern University, 2003). To complete this study the quantitative research methodology will be regarded as appropriate. To identify the effectiveness of the positive motivation upon the team performance the qualitative method will be suitable. Sampling Technique Sampling is an important part of the research methodology. Sampling method means to study few or small selected number of units from the large population size for proper analysis. The small selected group of units, which has been collected through the sampling theory, is known as a sample. Generally sampling method is dependent upon the research process. There are two types of sampling theory one is probability sampling and another is non probability sampling. The probability sampling is a kind of random sampling which is used in the research work (Fairfax County Government, 2014). In this research, the probability sampling method will be applied for collecting sample data. It is evident that probability sampling is more difficult and costly than the non-probability sampling but probability sampling has the ability to generalize the result from the sample population. As the probability sampling helps the researcher to calculate estimated observations and its errors. In this research the estimated observation or the sample numbers will be a group of 30 people. The researcher in this research will obtain a group of 30 people as the sample size to identify the result of the research in an effective and relevant manner. To identify the effectiveness of the positive motivation upon the team performance random or probability sampling will be suitable as it is working with a group (Fairfax County Government, 2014). Qualitative Method Qualitative research method is mainly used in a research paper to evaluate several attributes and factors for the proper and relevant outcome. This is a one types of scientific research methodology used for proper analysis. The qualitative research method mainly provides textual description of the information obtained from the research processes. The qualitative method has the ability to identify the intangible factors, which includes the social norms, gender roles, socioeconomic status and ethnicity. The qualitative data is useful to identify the similarities in the characteristics of the several people. In a scientific language the qualitative research is well capable to relate the similar data, which are collected from the sample for better results and analysis (Northeastern University, 2003). In this research paper, the application of qualitative methodology will be more suitable. The researcher can use the strength of qualitative research methodology, which will be suitable for the study. The qualitative research process mainly highlights on the theoretical approach or theoretical perspective of the study. The subject of the paper is based on the motivation theory. The objective of the paper is to establish positive effect of motivation upon the team performance. On the basis of the research question it can be stated that qualitative research methodology will be perfect for the research process (Northeastern University, 2003). Data Collection The data collection is important aspect of a research work. The main objective of the data collection is to identify the question, which has arise during the research process and recognize the outcomes of the research process. Data collection process mainly collects the quality and logical evidence, which will be transformed into a rich data analysis to establish the real object and actual findings of the study. To maintain the integrity of the research it is important that the data collection process should be appropriate. This can also be stated that both data collection process and selection process should be appropriate in terms of using it in the research process. In this research paper, two types of data collection process have been selected for completing the research process for identifying the positive motivation applicability for the building team performance. In this research paper, researcher should apply the interview process and the participant’s observation. The interview process will be more suitable for understanding the actual logic behind the popularity of positive motivation and its effect on people. The participant’s observation will also help the researcher to identify the drawbacks of negative motivation and the reason of not adopting the same in a corporate working culture. This will help to make the research approach more effective for the enhancement of the research study. Ethical Consideration Ethical consideration for a research proposal is a very important factor. In a research proposal ethical part is not avoidable as it helps in getting relevant and accurate data. Ethics refers to be an undeclared rule, which play a crucial role in data collection process. In this study, the researcher will maintain the all the possible ethical consideration during the data collection. Before starting interview procedures researcher will take the consent from the participants who are supposed to respond in the interview process. The confidentiality will be maintained in the study as several participants personal details will not be disclosed. The participant’s observation will also maintain the reliability by giving the option of freedom quitting their names from the data collection process (The University of California, 2014). Conclusion After reviewing the study, it can be concluded that the qualitative method will be appropriate for the research process. This qualitative research process is appropriate to identify the effectiveness of the positive motivation for maintaining team performance. The research mainly intends to explore about positive motivation than the negative motivation. This research process will also explain that the corporate working culture practicing positive motivation, achieve more success as the performance of the employees enhances considerably.
