The condition being stressed should not be considered a way of life, as several reports reveal that after a prolonged period, the condition may increase the level of certain health risks (National Health Ministries, 2006). According to the American Academy of Family Physicians (2009), the human body may react either positively or negatively to certain stress factors and manifests coping mechanisms to attain homeostasis. Milliken & Tillman (2007) also assert that high levels of stress can result in mental health problems such as insomnia, anxiety, depression, and feelings of inadequacy. This study aims to assess the stress level and coping mechanisms among senior football athletes in selected Colleges within the city.

The research will also test the null hypothesis which is stated, “There is no significant difference in the stress level and coping mechanisms of Senior football athletes.” To achieve the goals of the study, the researcher will design a 1X3 factorial design to measure the sources of stress and stress levels using the Quick Stress Questionnaire (QSQ). Later, the second design will integrate descriptive statistics using percentages to examine coping through the application of the Brief COPE Questionnaire (BCQ). The research will be carried out in selected Colleges that will grant permission to the researchers. An estimate of about 80-100 participants will be included from a sample of convenience of the selected Colleges. There will be no randomization in the sampling process and participants will be based on the number of football athletes who will volunteer to join the research activity. Instruments will be administered thrice (3x) throughout the semester; and the main outcomes will later be presented, analyzed, and interpreted. Read More
